Nature - our best friend

Fibres are like friends: You get to know them best when going to the limit. This is when nature brings in millions of years of experience. Biological organisms are able to store water and heat and use them according to their needs. This is why Ortovox has decided to use natures best working fibres: Merino wool.

Ortovox is the pioneer in working with functional wool in the outdoor and winter sports industry. For more than 20 years, the Ortovox research and development team has worked with this natural raw material. In the process Ortovox has learned a lot about nature and now provides people with natural functional
underwear. Because for Ortovox, outdoor doesn’t only mean being outside in nature, but above all it means being in harmony with nature.

This is confirmed by the expert jury of the VOLVO Sports Design AWARD. Ortovox Merino Supersoft was the only functional underwear nominated for the EcoDesign Award 2008.

The Merino Competition line persuaded the jurys of the European Ski Award and of the Outdoor Industry Award this year as the most innovative product 2009.

Merino wool

The clothing we wear can either restrict or support our skins natural ability to regulate temperature. We can therefore actively support our well being, especially during activity, by choosing the right clothing. Thanks to 12 years of experience with the best material nature has to offer, we can now present the next generation of ORTOVOX merino wool providing unrivalled levels of comfort.

Merino products are made from special sheep wool. They are very comfortable to wear and can be warming or cooling whilst keeping you nice and dry. The wool neutralises odours so that no bad smells develop.  Thus the garments are easy to care for and provide an extra level of comfort.

Through new production methods we have succeeded in reducing the differences in fibre quality. Until now, even the finest merino wool still contained a high percentage of thicker fibres. The thicker the fibres, the scratchier a garment will be.
In the production of ORTOVOX MERINO we are now able to pick out the thicker fibres, resulting in a silky soft end product.
